What Cars Do NHL Players Drive?
Ignore the one Lamborghini photo. Walk a team lot in January and you will see black SUVs.
Quick answer
Most NHL players drive a luxury SUV — Range Rover, Mercedes G-Class, BMW X5 or Audi Q7. Stars add a Porsche 911, McLaren or Lamborghini. The split is climate, not taste.
The two-car pattern
- Winter daily: tall, AWD, heated, room for bags.
- Summer toy: 911, AMG GT, Huracán, or nothing at all.
Role players often stop at step one. Captains get photographed in step two.
By player (reported)
Auston Matthews (Toronto)
Aventador / 911 / McLaren in recaps; S-Class or Range Rover as the practical car. Full piece: what car Auston Matthews drives.
Connor McDavid (Edmonton)
Porsche 911 plus a Range Rover-class SUV. Details: McDavid’s cars.
Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh)
Crosby is the anti-exotic. Coverage names a BMW X5 and Audi Q7. That is also what a Canadian family can actually take over.
Alex Ovechkin (Washington)
G-Class AMG and other Mercedes products show up most often. The G-Wagen is a status SUV that still works in snow.
William Nylander, Mitch Marner and the Leafs kids
Toronto’s younger stars rotate through AMG, Porsche and the occasional McLaren. Parking at Scotiabank Arena in February still favours SUVs.
What this means if you want the look
You do not need a $500,000 exotic. A 12–24 month takeover on an X5, Q7, GLE or C-Class gets you into the same lot. Start with Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or the national board.
| NHL look | Lease-takeover stand-in |
|---|---|
| G-Class | Mercedes GLE / GLC |
| Range Rover Sport | BMW X5, Audi Q7 |
| 911 Turbo | Cayman, M340i, Supra |
| S-Class | E-Class, Genesis G80 |
