Luxury Car Lease Takeover in Canada
Assume the remaining months on a BMW, Mercedes, Audi or Porsche instead of starting a new 48-month luxury lease.
Quick answer
A luxury lease takeover lets an approved driver finish someone else’s contract. You get a 1–3-year-old BMW, Mercedes, Audi or Porsche, often with a seller incentive and no new capitalized-cost reduction. The lender — BMW Financial, Mercedes-Benz Financial, VW Credit, Porsche Financial — still has to say yes.
Why luxury takeovers exist
People exit early because of a baby, a move, a job change or a payment that no longer fits. The car is still under warranty. The remaining term is often 8–24 months. That is the opposite of a new 48-month AMG lease.
See the process in the Canada lease transfer guide and provincial pages for Ontario and B.C.
What to compare on a luxury listing
| Check | Why it matters on BMW / Mercedes / Porsche |
|---|---|
| Payment including tax | Luxury ads often show pre-tax numbers. |
| Months and kilometres left | M and AMG cars get driven hard. Excess km is $0.15–$0.30/km. |
| Transfer fee | Captive lenders often charge $400–$900. Ask who pays. |
| Wear protection / winter tires | 19-inch summers fail in January. A tire set is $1,500+. |
| Seller incentive | Divide cash by months left to get the true payment. |
Brands that transfer in Canada
- BMW and MINI — Financial Services Canada, common takeovers.
- Mercedes-Benz — C, E, GLC, GLE; AMG needs stronger credit.
- Audi / VW / Porsche — same VW Credit family, different score bars.
- All current luxury listings on the marketplace.
Credit and insurance
Plan on a mid-600s score as a floor and 700+ for AMG, M and Porsche. Get an insurance quote before you apply — a 3 Series in Brampton can cost more per month than the lease. Toronto neighbourhood rates vary widely; see the notes on the Toronto page.
Steps
- Find a listing and confirm payment, term, km and why they are leaving.
- Inspect the car or hire a mechanic. Photograph existing wear.
- Ask the seller which lender owns the contract.
- Apply through that lender. Do not send a deposit first.
- Sign transfer documents, update insurance and registration, then exchange keys.
FAQ
Can I take over a luxury lease from another province?
Sometimes. The lender and both provincial registries have to agree. Confirm before you book a flight.
Do sellers really pay me to take the car?
Yes, when they need out. Get the incentive in writing and pay it only after the lender completes the transfer.
